The Adsorption Layer in the System: Carboxymethylcellulose/Surfactants/NaCl/MnO2

چکیده
The influence of surfactants (anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate, and nonionic tert-octylphenol ethoxylate with 9.5EO) and their mixtures on the adsorption of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) in the presence of 0.001 M NaCl on the manganese dioxide surface (MnO(2)) was studied. The increase in CMC adsorption was observed in all measured systems in the presence of surfactants. The reason for this is the formation of complexes between polymer macromolecules and surfactants. Moreover, the dependence between the amount of surfactants adsorption and the CMC initial concentration was also studied. It proves that surfactant adsorption does not depend on the initial concentration of CMC. Another observation is that the increase in pH caused the decrease in CMC adsorption. The explanation of this phenomenon is connected with the influence of pH on the dissociation degree of the polyelectrolyte, kind and concentration of the surface active groups of the adsorbent. To characterize the compact and diffuse adsorption layer the surface charge density and the zeta potential of MnO(2) in the presence of CMC and surfactants were measured. The surface charge density of MnO(2) decreases in the presence of CMC or CMC/surfactant complexes. This is due to the presence of negatively charged groups in the compact part of the electric double layer. The zeta potential of MnO(2) is also lower in the presence of CMC and the CMC/surfactants complexes. The main reason for that is the shift of the slipping plane towards the bulk solution.

Effective and selective sorption of iodide by thin film of multilayered MnO(2) intercalated with cationic surfactants.
We have fabricated a thin film of multilayered MnO2 whose interlayer is occupied with hexadecylpyridinium (HDPy) cations, using a simple anodic approach. The resulting film can effectively sorb iodide anions from aqueous solutions, even in the presence of NaCl or Na2SO4. The maximum sorption capacity was estimated to be 256 mg/g-MnO2, whereas a layered MnO2 film intercalated with K(+) ions show...

Adsorption of benzimidazole, 2-methylbenzimidazole and 2-aminobenzimidazole on mild steel in 3.5 NaCl solution was studied using density function theory DFT calculations. In this regard, charge transfer resistance Rct and double layer capacitance Cdl obtained by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS were used to calculate surface coverage and to build prediction models. When prediction mod...

The force-distance curves of 12-2-12 and 12-4-12 Gemini quaternary ammonium bromide surfactants on mica and silica surfaces obtained by atomic force microscopy (AFM) were correlated with the structure of the adsorption layer. The critical micelle concentration was measured in the presence or absence of electrolyte. The electrolyte effect (the decrease of CMC) is significantly more pronounced fo...
متن کاملRemoval of Manganese from an Aqueous Solution Using Micellar-Enhanced Ultrafiltration (MEUF) with SDS Surfactants
In the present study, micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) was used to remove manganese (Mn) (II) from synthetic wastewater. The effects of different operational conditions on the filtration performance of MEUF or the membrane were studied. It was found that the transmembrane pressure has a major influence on the permeate flux and an insignificant effect on the rejection coefficient. The pe...
متن کاملZinc adsorption effects on arsenite oxidation kinetics at the birnessite-water interface.
Arsenite is more toxic and mobile than As(V) in soil and sediment environments, and thus it is advantageous to explore factors that enhance oxidation of As(III) to As(V). Previous studies showed that manganese oxides, such as birnessite (delta-MnO2), directly oxidized As(III). However, these studies did not explore the role that cation adsorption has on As(III) oxidation. Accordingly, the effec...
